Why choose Kent

Moving to the UK and you don’t know where to start then just think Kent, the garden of England. Why choose Kent? With it’s many Oast houses, orchards, vineyards, beautiful coastline.  There are plenty of historic and pretty towns and villages and with it being in such close proximity to London you would be hard pressed to find a more interesting or beautiful place to rent or buy.

Royal Tunbridge Wells in central Kent has great train links to London and a plethora of excellent state primary and its  many high achieving state grammar schools such as The Judd School and Skinners School for boys and Toggs and Twiggs for girls. Other well known schools include Bennett Memorial School and St. Gregorys and the fairly new Skinners Kent Academy. Kent also has a strong independent schooling sector with prep schools such as Holmewood House, Rosehill, Kent College and renowned senior schools such as  Tonbridge, Sevenoaks and King’s Canterbury.

This is just a start though as Royal Tunbridge Wells is a Spa town which, in the past, was frequently visited by the monarchs and society to take the waters there. It has many beautiful buildings with Calverley Park all the houses and park were designed by Decimus Burton a famous architect.  There are many other parks dotted in and around Tunbridge Wells and these are Camden Park, Neville Park and Hungershall Park all of which have beautiful villas and lovely outlooks.

Shopping is also excellent with the Royal Victoria Shopping Mall at the top end of town housing most of the well known Brands including Fenwick’s department store and the graceful Pantiles at the other end of town. Sandwiched between the two are the high streets which have plenty of  great places to have coffee, eat, drink and shop.

The surrounding villages  have much to offer with their restaurants and gourmet pubs, churches, greens and beautiful walks. Some of the notable villages are Frant with its regal Georgian Homes or Speldhurst which is close to town and has a great community feel. Groombridge village has the spa valley steam railway line that runs a couple of days a week with a service to Tunbridge Wells. Harrison Rocks for climbing and walking are nearby and of course Groombridge Place which was often visited by royalty for hunting trips. Not only this but most of the primary schools in the surrounding villages’ have good or outstanding ofsted reports and extremely sought after.

Travelling further down towards the coast you could visit Goudhurst village with its imposing church and Cranbrook which is not only a pretty town but has Cranbrook school, one of only 40 state schools in the Country that provides boarding for those children living out of the catchment area. En route to Folkestone you could stop off in Tenterden, great shopping, nip up to Ashford which has a retail outlet park and then carry onto Canterbury with all its amazing historical buildings including the cathedral and great schools such as King’s Canterbury and of course the University of Kent. Returning to London following the the estuary you’ll come to Whitstable which is renowned for its Oysters and shell fish.
